Implementing Goals for 2008!

By Debbie Green

It is almost 2008 and with the beginning of every new year comes New Year's Resolutions! What new goals are you planning on implementing in 2008? Notice I used the word implementing and not setting. When you actually plan out how to implement a goal it will get done. So don't just set goals - plan how you can implement them. Actually, set time aside on your calendar by treating the task as an appointment. Below I have written a step-by-step plan to implement a software program, Minutes Matter Studio. You can modify these steps to apply to any goals you want to implement.

  1. Install the software (Minutes Matter Studio) (5 minutes)
  2. Open Studio and explore the program. (10 minutes)
  3. Mark out a half of day on Saturday or any half day that you will not be interrupted to view Studio's tutorial (available on the website or on Studio CD.) The tutorial is divided into multiple segments. Watch one segment then pause the video and practice what you have learned. (5 - 6 hours)
  4. Join a Webinar and ask questions (1 hour)
  5. Visit and explore "The Lounge" Studio's online forum. Post any questions you may have. (1 hour)
  6. Customize Studio's 8', 9' & 10' Wall Templates to include your logo and company information. (1 hour)
  7. Select a project from an actual client (pick an easy one for your first rendering.) You want get the feel of how a graphic program works. (1 - 2 hours)

Below is a calendar with actual dates and times scheduled to get Studio implemented. Notice, I added all of the Webinars to the calendar that are scheduled for January in the event something comes up preventing me from attending the Webinar on the 4th. (To make this calendar easier to view all other appointments have been removed.)

So the question is: Will you take 8 - 9 hours of time to learn Studio if it means increasing this year's profit by 25%? By actually scheduling your plan, you will learn Studio or any software much quicker and with less frustration. The downfall for implementing a goal is lack of commitment. If you are committed to learning Studio or any software it is critical to set aside a little time to accomplish this task. Once you know the basics of Studio, you can reduce your design time by half. Remember, it only takes 8 - 9 hours to transform your business!

There are a couple of MUST DO's to make goal implementation successful.

1. To cut your learning curve in half, it is crucial that you devote a chunk of uninterrupted time in the beginning. Yes, you can learn any software by working 15-20 minutes here and there but you have wasted half of your learning time getting re-focused again.

2. Take advantage of tech support that is offered with the software.

3. Don't start with a difficult project; that can cause you to become frustrated and give up. Get a couple of easy renderings under your belt before you tackle a difficult project.

Next month, I will give you a step-by-step plan for implementing QuickBooks into your business. Just think how "computerized" you can be in 2008 by following these plans for setting goals.
