When is the Best Time to Purchase QuickBooks?
We receive calls all the time asking how often should QuickBooks be upgraded and what version should be purchased? My recommendation is to upgrade QuickBooks every two years and to purchase QuickBooks Pro. Most of the time those new features can wait for a year. However, there might be a time when a new feature or function has been added that will increase productivity in your company then it would be justifiable to go ahead and purchase.
If you are a new user to QuickBooks, Sam's Wholesale Club or Costco will offer the best price (Sam's in the past has not offered the $100 rebate to people that are upgrading). If you are an existing QuickBooks customer and want to upgrade Amazon.com offers a great price.
Every year when QuickBooks releases its new version all retail locations reduce the selling price of the current year's version of QuickBooks. So, if you are looking to save a little money and are willing to purchase a year old version; take advantage of purchasing QuickBooks in October or November just before the new release. You can save anywhere from $70 - $100. If you purchase office supplies online you probably have a $30 - $40 coupon from places like Staples, Office Max or Office Depot that can be used to reduce your cost even more.
Special Note: The 2006 version of QuickBooks will be available mid-November and as of 2006 Intuit is no longer offering the basic version of QuickBooks.
