Quoting - Using Group Items is the Only Way click on image for enlarged view Are you using QuickBooks to create your proposals? If so, you should be using group items. Have you ever forgotten to charge a client for a rod, lining or trim? If you are using individual item codes you run the risk of forgetting to charge a client for an product or service. A group item is a predefined combination of item codes. Using group items enables you to remember all the components of a quote. In addition, group items allow you to include a lot of detail in a quote while displaying only a summary description and total. (see above illustration) Even if you use itemized proposals, group items are still your best choice. To set up group items, first you must set up individual item codes i.e., labor codes, fabric codes, hardware codes, hardware treatment codes, etc. After individual item codes are setup you can begin to create group items. In the Item List, press Ctrl N (New) > select Group for the Type > enter a group name > enter a default description (description can be edited in a proposal) >select individual items to be included within the group. Also, notice the box "Print items in group"; leave this box unchecked if you want a summarized proposal like the one illustrated above. Check the box to print an itemized proposal. NOTE: After a proposal has been created, QuickBooks does not allow you to toggle back and forth between the summarized and itemized view. You must select the format before creating your proposal.
