Can One Person Be Both a Vendor and a Customer in QuickBooks?

There are times when a vendor can also be a customer and QuickBooks will not let you use the same name even if one is a customer and one is a vendor. Your installer, who is a vendor, could ask you to give a quote for a living room window treatment or simply buy product from you; now the installer has become a customer. A vendor can have two different roles; for instance, the bank which handles your checking and saving accounts could also have issued you a credit card. Here's an easy solution - just differentiate the names. Type the text (Vendor) or (Customer) after the name or for the vendor type (Credit Card) or (Merchant Services) after the company name. Adding this text as a suffix makes it easy to be assured that you are using the correct name.

Below is a screen shot of a vendor in QuickBooks' vendor list that provides a different service and has different addresses.
