Applying One Check to Multiple Invoices
I receive frequent emails inquiring how to apply one check to multiple invoices especially when the clients are different. The solution is so simple it is often overlooked. The secret is adding the exact same check number as you are posting in the Receive Payments window.
The first important step when recording a payment in the Receive Payments window is to add CK (check) in front of the check number i.e., CK 24887 or type CA (cash) in the Ref/Check No. area when you receive cash. Now as you view the Accounts Receivable register it will be easy to distinguish between invoices & payments. The most important step is to make sure the Chk No. (see red arrow below) is identical when posting both payments in the Receive Payment window. Payments are posted separately with identical check numbers.
