Finally, A Place To File Everything

I participated in Beta testing Microsoft's Office 2003 this past year.  A program called OneNote was included in the package.  I absolutely fell in love with this program; I have always wanted a place to file those loose ends.  Microsoft OneNote is a great place to organize notes, thoughts, ideas, scanned documents, excerpts from newsletters and forum dialogs.  As you open OneNote, you add a main category and OneNote creates a tab for each main category.  Sub-headings can be added to each main category and a date stamp is automatically placed on each page.

I know you hate the thought of doing away with those Post-It-Notes pasted to your computer; I sure don't miss them.  Just make a decision to place your thoughts, ideas and information in the same place in OneNote; do the same thing the same way every time and you will always find your information.  OneNote is a great solution for a cleaner desk and getting those bits and pieces of information organized.  Below is a partial screen shot of this wonderful program.

Your file for OneNote is stored in My Documents/My Notebook.

You can purchase OneNote from Amazon for $179 and you will be eligible for a $100 rebate from Microsoft if you have a previous version of Microsoft Office.  You can also download a free evaluation copy for 60 days.

Closing a Tax Period in QuickBooks

To keep from accidentally changing your data in QuickBooks after finishing a tax period, close your company books by entering a date and a password in Preferences.  Now every time you try to change data in that closed period QuickBooks will ask "This transaction's date is prior to the closing date for this company file. This will affect accounting.  Are you sure you want to make this change?

To create a closing date, click Edit, click Preferences, select the Accounting icon on the left, click on the Company Preferences tab and enter the date to close your company.

Minutes Matter Studio

Minutes Matter Studio is a computer software program to assist your clients in visualizing their dreams!   Enhance your creativity while working with software that is specifically designed for creating custom window treatments to scale.  As with any drawing program, Studio comes with all the tools you need to customize your design i.e., dimension tool, import photographs and logos, text tools, lines, line to top, space evenly, call out tool, add any color to all images, add textures, and we have even added actual paint finishes for rods and finials.  Studio also contains graph paper that can be toggled on or off.  There is no need for conversions since the wall size and all images are based on a 1-20 scale; however, the scale and wall size can be changed to your specifications.  The size of the images can be changed by simply typing in the dimensions in real world measurements.

Thumbnails of each image are located on the left side of the workspace; simply drag and drop. Once you have one side of the design completed, click a button and the images can be duplicated and flipped to create the other side. These features are invaluable time savers!  Use Studio as an effective selling tool by adding embellishments to images with trims from D'Kei.  It’s hard for clients to resist temptation!  Our hardware vendors include Sarkis Studio, Orion by Iron Art and Resin Solutions.  We have also included patterns from M’Fay and Minutes Matter Instructional System.  Each image contains a description i.e., finials reflect actual size.  As a surprise bonus, we have added Room Accessories which includes fireplaces, mirrors, pictures, radiators, lighting fixtures and moldings.  Use these images to better illustrate your client’s room and to add more detail to your design presentations.  You will receive two licenses with every purchase; install one on your desktop and one on your laptop.  Choose from over 2,000 images!

Below is a partial screen shot of Minutes Matter Studio.  The yellow arrows direct your attention to just a few of our unique drawing tools.

Treatment Details . . .

  • Soft Cornice in Bay with Draperies

  • The cornice gives the illusion of being a hard cornice when in fact it is a soft cornice.

  • The draperies and cornice were mounted on a 1 x 6 board.  Inside corner draperies are mounted to the underside of the 1 x 6 board.  1 x 6 legs were added on the returns to stabilize the cornice.   Angle irons turned toward the front of cornice were added to the inside corners of the bay and a cut off yard stick w/Velcro attached to angle irons.  The backside of the Fabric Stiffner sticks to Velcro.  A total of four angle irons were used to create the sharp corners in the bay.

  • DoFix 2001 Fabric Stiffner was used to create the hard cornice effect.

  • Finished length of draperies are 95", each drapery section has 1½ widths of fabric.  The cornice has a short point of 18" and a long point of 22".

  • Draperies were tied back with regular rope cord.

  • As with any bay treatment be sure to test the fit before attaching the Fabric Stiffner.

  • The fabric company is Fabricade, Pattern: 8125, Color: 558 Adobe.

These treatments were fabricated by Ann Neel of Windows Sew Beautiful, Fort Mill, SC.
