Focus - Year End Panic Relief!

The end of the year is here and we all wish we had extra hours in the day.  It is the busiest time of the year for our industry.  Here are a few tips to help you work more effectively.

  1. Set an hour or two aside to work uninterrupted; that means don't answer the phone.  Let your answering machine pick up the phone calls; also turn the volume down or off so you cannot hear the messages.  If you work uninterrupted you will get more done than you ever thought possible.
  2. Remember to jot down your priority list with your top ten tasks at the beginning of each day.  Little tasks can slip through the cracks if you don't make a daily "Must Do List".
  3. Return all phone calls at one time.  Spend an hour returning phone calls.
  4. Jumping from one task to another is very inefficient.  You waste 20% more time trying to refocus on a previous task.  Revisiting a task is also the easiest time to make a mistake.
  5. Complete a task, if possible, before moving to the next one.
  6. Do it the easy way.  Complete some of the easier tasks before tackling the more time consuming ones.  Doing this gives you a sense of accomplishment and gives you the adrenalin to accomplish more.
  7. Ask yourself is this task necessary to complete my goals; if not rethink why you are doing it.
  8. Do these things each day and you will see a big difference in your productivity.

Receiving a Partial Shipment on a Purchase Order

Scenario: A Purchase Order is created for two items from the same vendor.  You find one of the items is on backorder or  will be shipped from another location.  You receive an invoice for the first item that is in stock, days or weeks later you receive the second invoice for the backordered item.

Solution:  Enter a bill in QuickBooks as normal for the first item, in the quantity column for enter a "0" (zero) for the backordered item.  QuickBooks will keep this Purchase Order open until the second invoice arrives for the backordered item.

Another option is to create two Purchase Orders, however, I feel there is less paper work with one Purchase Order.

  • Shades are 39" wide, 18" long and mounted on 1 x 2 boards.  Jute ties are set in 6" from each side.  Notches were cut in the mounting board so the trim will set in at the top of the board.

  • Sailors' Knot: cut one length of cord 110" (face cord and knot), cut one length of cord 54" (for back cord & loop).  Using the 110", measure down 24" and begin making knot according to diagram.  Tip: wear rubber gloves when using jute.
